ARTS FOR EDUCATION , ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT &THE ENVIRONMENT
We focus on creating new pathways for learning using an arts based approach to challenges facing rural and peri-urban youth and women. We help build the confidence and self esteem of girls and young people in vulnerable and rural communities. Our focus is on improving their access to education and opportunities. We believe that the arts are an incredible tool for learning. Our goal is to see more girls going and completing school towards a career pathway of their choice no matter their backgrounds and situations. More and more young people must access space and opportunity using various artistic skills and talents. We want to see more young people using their arts to drive their communities and hence their livelihood! Women must discover their art , grow from their art and excel through their art.
CREATING A PATHWAY FOR RURAL AND
PERI-URBAN YOUTH AND WOMEN THROUGH EDUCATIONAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND ARTISTIC DIMENSIONS.
Chinese philosopher and reformer Confucius (551 BC to 479 BC), stated “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” Rise N Shine trust strongly believes that 'the art of doing is the art of learning.' Poetry, Dance, Drama, Painting, Drawing, Sculpting, Sewing, Carpentry and Knitting are all part of the great visual performance arsenal that we believe contribute to building confident, assertive young people whose circumstances are not always favorable to their growth,
education and their environment.
ARTISTIC DIMENSIONS AND SOLUTIONS
Girls Clubs- We have a diverse number of artistic dimensions and solutions. Since 2016 we have been running the Rise N Shine girls clubs in the Mvutu area 20 kilometer from Victoria Falls. These clubs focus on in-school girls and now numbers of 60 regular members who meet regularly at three different locations in Villages. Our approach uses the power of the arts to harness the girls interest and love for education.
Sewing workshops-we do a lot of sewing, from teaching girls and women how to sew clothes and how to make reusable pads we believe art is a creative solution for basic needs.
Boys programs-young rural men face similar challenges to those of their counterparts needing mentor-ship to help them contribute to their communities.
A SUSTAINABLE JOURNEY
No one can take away your education from you -it is always something that remains embedded in you. Our girls and artists must own their talents and their creativity and create lasting solutions that no one can take away and in the process own their future.
